Aspartic acid

Aspartic acid (three-letter code Asp, one-letter code D) is an acidic amino acid with a side-chain carboxyl group that is negatively charged at neutral pH. Aspartic acid lowers a peptide's isoelectric point. In Fmoc synthesis it is prone to aspartimide formation, particularly in Asp-Gly and Asp-Ser sequences.
