Selank: research summary

For laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use. This page summarises published literature. It gives no advice on use.

What the literature covers

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. It is an analogue of the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), extended with Pro-Gly-Pro at the C-terminus for stability. It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow.

Published research includes gene-expression studies in IMR-32 neuroblastoma cells and rodent behavioural-conditioning studies. As a proline-rich regulatory oligopeptide, it has also been compared with related peptides in haemostasis assays.

Selank has a molecular weight of about 751.9 g/mol (C33H57N11O9). It is water-soluble and is usually supplied as an acetate salt.

Selank compared with Semax

Selank and Semax come from the same Moscow institute and both end in the stabilising Pro-Gly-Pro motif. Selank extends tuftsin, a fragment of an immunoglobulin heavy chain. Semax extends ACTH(4-7), a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone.

Frequently asked questions

What is Selank derived from?
Tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), with a Pro-Gly-Pro extension at the C-terminus.
How is Selank related to Semax?
Both are Pro-Gly-Pro-extended analogues from the same research institute. Selank is based on tuftsin and Semax on ACTH(4-7).
What is the molecular weight of Selank?
About 751.9 g/mol (C33H57N11O9, PubChem CID 11765600).
