Glossary
Peptide bond
A peptide bond is the amide linkage formed between the carboxyl group of one amino acid and the amino group of the next, releasing a molecule of water in a condensation reaction. The bond has partial double-bond character, making it planar and fairly rigid, and it can be hydrolysed by strong acid, strong base or protease enzymes.
