Glossary
Ionic strength
Ionic strength is a measure of the total concentration of ions in a solution, weighted by the square of their charges. It influences electrostatic interactions, peptide solubility and aggregation, and retention in ion-exchange chromatography. Changing salt concentration is a common way to adjust ionic strength.
