Glossary
Coupling reagent
A coupling reagent activates the carboxyl group of an amino acid so that it reacts efficiently with the free amine on the growing peptide chain. Common examples include carbodiimides such as DIC, often used with additives like Oxyma or HOBt, and uronium or phosphonium salts such as HBTU, HATU and PyBOP. Good coupling minimises racemisation and deletion sequences.
