Peptide hormone

A peptide hormone is a signalling molecule composed of amino acids that is secreted by cells and acts on specific receptors. Examples studied in research include oxytocin, vasopressin and fragments of growth hormone-releasing hormone. Synthetic analogues are widely used as reference standards and tool compounds in receptor-binding and cell-based assays.
