Glossary
Internal standard
An internal standard is a known amount of a compound, different from the analyte but chemically similar, added to every sample and calibration standard. Expressing analyte response relative to it corrects for variability in sample preparation and instrument response. Stable isotope-labelled peptides are ideal internal standards in LC-MS.
