Collision-induced dissociation
Collision-induced dissociation (CID) is a fragmentation method in tandem mass spectrometry in which ions are accelerated and collided with neutral gas molecules, converting kinetic energy into internal energy that breaks chemical bonds. In peptides, CID mainly cleaves amide bonds to produce b and y fragment ions.
