Amidation
C-terminal amidation is a modification in which the terminal carboxylic acid of a peptide is replaced by a carboxamide group. It occurs naturally in many peptide hormones and is reproduced synthetically by using an amide-generating resin such as Rink amide. Amidation removes a negative charge, often increases resistance to carboxypeptidases, and lowers the mass by roughly 0.98 Da.
