Adduct ion

An adduct ion is formed when a molecule associates with an ion other than a proton, such as sodium [M+Na]⁺, potassium [M+K]⁺ or ammonium [M+NH4]⁺. Adducts appear at characteristic mass offsets from the protonated species and are common in peptide mass spectra. They must be distinguished from genuine impurities.
