# Epitalon vs N-acetyl Epitalon vs Epitalon sodium: what is the difference?

All three products are built on the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG). Epitalon is the free peptide, C14H22N4O9 at about 390 g/mol. N-acetyl Epitalon adds an acetyl group to the N-terminal alanine, giving C16H24N4O10 at about 432 g/mol. Epitalon sodium is the same peptide supplied as a sodium salt of its acidic groups.

## How do the three forms compare?

| Form | Structure | Formula (PubChem) | MW |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Epitalon | H-Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly-OH | C14H22N4O9 | 390.4 g/mol |
| N-acetyl Epitalon | Ac-Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly-OH | C16H24N4O10 | 432.4 g/mol |
| Epitalon sodium | AEDG as sodium salt | Depends on the number of Na+ counter-ions | Higher than the free peptide; state per lot |

## What does N-acetylation change?

Acetylation removes the positive charge of the free N-terminal amine. AEDG already carries three carboxyl groups (Glu and Asp side chains and the C-terminus), so the acetylated form is even more acidic overall. N-terminal acetylation is common in proteins and is known to affect recognition by aminopeptidases. It is a different molecule, not a purity grade.

## What does a sodium salt form mean?

A peptide with free carboxyl groups can be isolated with sodium as the counter-ion instead of, for example, trifluoroacetate or acetate. The peptide part is the same, but the weighed mass includes the counter-ions, so mg of 'Epitalon sodium' is not the same as mg of free Epitalon. Ask for the salt stoichiometry on the CoA.

## What research literature uses AEDG?

Most Epitalon literature comes from the St Petersburg bioregulator research school: gene-expression work in mouse tissues, enzyme activity studies, and a 2020 review of neurogenesis-related gene expression.

## Sourcing note

Sable lists Epitalon: 10 mg at £13.93; 50 mg at £24.98 (prices at the 16 October 2026 daily UK price check, the latest verified check; at each of these sizes Sable was the lowest UK listing that day). Lowest UK price guaranteed, confirmed by daily price checks.

Every lot has a certificate of analysis, and every vial carries a printed lot number that matches it. Supplied for laboratory research use only.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is N-acetyl Epitalon the same as Epitalon?

No. It is Epitalon with an acetyl group on the N-terminal alanine: C16H24N4O10 against C14H22N4O9.

### What is the sequence of Epitalon?

Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG), a tetrapeptide of about 390.35 g/mol.

### Does 10 mg of Epitalon sodium contain 10 mg of Epitalon?

Not exactly. The weighed mass includes sodium counter-ions, so the peptide content is lower than the salt mass.
