# Ultra-low temperature freezer

An ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezer maintains temperatures around -80 °C and is used to store biological samples, enzymes and sensitive peptide solutions for extended periods. At this temperature molecular motion and chemical reaction rates are greatly reduced. Alarm systems and backup plans are important because failures can compromise many samples.
