# Tyrosine

Tyrosine (three-letter code Tyr, one-letter code Y) is an aromatic amino acid with a phenolic hydroxyl side chain. It absorbs at about 275 to 280 nm, contributing to peptide UV absorbance, and can be phosphorylated, sulfated or iodinated. Its hydroxyl group is usually protected as a tert-butyl ether in Fmoc synthesis.
