# Tryptophan

Tryptophan (three-letter code Trp, one-letter code W) is an aromatic amino acid with an indole side chain. It is the strongest UV absorber among standard amino acids at 280 nm and is intrinsically fluorescent. Tryptophan is susceptible to oxidation and to alkylation during peptide cleavage without suitable scavengers.
