# Tris buffer

Tris, or tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, is a widely used biological buffer with a useful range of about pH 7 to 9. Its pKa varies noticeably with temperature, so pH should be adjusted at the working temperature. Tris contains a primary amine, which can interfere with amine-reactive labelling chemistry.
