# TFA salt

A TFA salt is the form in which many synthetic peptides are isolated after reversed-phase HPLC purification with trifluoroacetic acid. Trifluoroacetate counter-ions pair with basic groups such as lysine, arginine, histidine and the free N-terminus. These counter-ions add to the gross weight of the powder, so net peptide content is lower than the weighed mass.
