Glossary

# Sterile water

Sterile water is purified water that has been sterilised and contains no added preservatives. It is used to dissolve lyophilised materials when preservatives might interfere with an experiment. Once opened, it offers no protection against microbial growth, so solutions prepared with it are best used promptly or aliquoted and frozen.
