# Sterile filtration

Sterile filtration is the removal of microorganisms from a liquid by passing it through a membrane with a pore size of 0.22 µm or smaller. It is used for heat-sensitive solutions, such as peptides, that cannot be autoclaved. Filter integrity tests and aseptic technique are required for reliable sterility.
