# Stationary phase

The stationary phase is the immobile material in a chromatography system with which sample components interact as the mobile phase flows past. In reversed-phase HPLC it is typically hydrophobic bonded silica. Differences in the strength of interaction between analytes and the stationary phase produce separation.
