# Stable isotope labelling

Stable isotope labelling incorporates non-radioactive heavy isotopes such as carbon-13, nitrogen-15 or deuterium into a molecule. Labelled peptides are chemically nearly identical to unlabelled ones but differ in mass, making them excellent internal standards for quantitative mass spectrometry and tracers in metabolic research.
