# Sodium chloride

Sodium chloride (NaCl) is an ionic compound commonly used to adjust ionic strength and tonicity in buffers. A 0.9% solution is isotonic saline. In peptide work it can help or hinder solubility depending on sequence, and it is non-volatile, so it must be removed before mass spectrometry.
