# Salt exchange

Salt exchange, or counter-ion exchange, replaces one counter-ion associated with a peptide with another, most commonly converting a TFA salt to an acetate or hydrochloride salt. It can be performed with ion-exchange resins, repeated lyophilisation from dilute hydrochloric acid, or preparative HPLC using a different acid modifier. The exchange is verified by ion chromatography or fluorine NMR.
