# Residual solvent

A residual solvent is an organic volatile chemical used or produced during manufacture that is not completely removed. In peptide synthesis, possible residual solvents include acetonitrile, diethyl ether, DMF and dichloromethane. They are measured by gas chromatography, often with headspace sampling, against defined limits.
