# Research use only

Research use only (RUO) is a labelling designation indicating that a product is intended solely for laboratory research and is not intended for diagnostic, medical or consumer use. RUO materials are not evaluated or approved by medicines regulators, and suppliers sell them on the understanding that they will be used in appropriate research settings.
