# Receptor

In biochemistry, a receptor is a protein that binds a specific signalling molecule, called a ligand, and initiates a cellular response. Many peptides act through G protein-coupled receptors. Research peptides are used as ligands to characterise receptor binding, selectivity and downstream signalling in laboratory systems.
