# Quadrupole

A quadrupole mass analyser uses four parallel rods with oscillating electric fields to allow only ions of a selected m/z range to pass through to the detector. Quadrupoles are robust and widely used in LC-MS for targeted quantification and as mass filters in tandem instruments such as triple quadrupoles and Q-TOFs.
