# Protease

A protease is an enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of peptide bonds. Proteases differ in specificity: trypsin cleaves after lysine and arginine, while chymotrypsin prefers aromatic residues. They degrade peptides in biological samples, and protease inhibitors or modified sequences are used to improve stability in experiments.
