# Precipitation

Precipitation is the formation of a solid from a solution. After cleavage, crude peptides are commonly precipitated by adding cold diethyl ether, which dissolves organic by-products while the peptide falls out of solution. Unwanted precipitation can also occur when a peptide solution is diluted into an incompatible buffer.
