Glossary

# Piperidine

Piperidine is a cyclic secondary amine used, typically as a 20% solution in DMF, to remove the Fmoc protecting group during solid-phase peptide synthesis. It also traps the dibenzofulvene by-product. Its use is controlled in some jurisdictions, and alternatives such as 4-methylpiperidine are sometimes used.
