# Phenylalanine

Phenylalanine (three-letter code Phe, one-letter code F) is an aromatic amino acid with a benzyl side chain. It is hydrophobic and absorbs weakly in the ultraviolet near 257 nm. Phenylalanine residues often participate in hydrophobic and aromatic stacking interactions at peptide-receptor interfaces.
