# Peptide aggregation

Aggregation is the self-association of peptide or protein molecules into larger assemblies, ranging from soluble oligomers to insoluble fibrils. It is promoted by hydrophobic sequences, high concentration, pH near the isoelectric point, agitation and repeated freeze-thaw. Aggregation can reduce apparent solubility and cause variable results, so it is monitored by techniques such as size-exclusion chromatography.
