# PEGylation

PEGylation is the covalent attachment of polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains to a molecule such as a peptide or protein. It increases hydrodynamic size and water solubility and can shield the molecule from proteolytic enzymes. Because PEG reagents are often polydisperse, PEGylated products can show broad mass distributions in mass spectrometry.
