# Palmitoylation

Palmitoylation is the attachment of palmitic acid, a 16-carbon saturated fatty acid, to a peptide or protein. Synthetic palmitoyl peptides, such as some cosmetic-science research peptides, carry an N-terminal palmitoyl group that greatly increases lipophilicity. The modification adds about 238.2 Da to the monoisotopic mass of the peptide.
