# Native chemical ligation

Native chemical ligation is a method for joining two unprotected peptide fragments, one bearing a C-terminal thioester and the other an N-terminal cysteine, to form a native peptide bond. It enables chemical synthesis of long peptides and small proteins beyond the practical length limit of stepwise solid-phase synthesis.
