# Mole

The mole (mol) is the SI base unit of amount of substance. Since 2019 it has been defined as exactly 6.02214076 × 10²³ elementary entities, the Avogadro number. In the laboratory, moles allow comparisons between compounds of different molecular weight, for example preparing equimolar solutions of two peptides for a side-by-side assay.
