# Microgram

A microgram (µg, sometimes written mcg) is one millionth of a gram (10⁻⁶ g), or one thousandth of a milligram. In peptide research, working solutions are often expressed in µg/mL. Because the abbreviations mg and µg differ by a factor of 1,000, careful unit labelling is essential to avoid calculation errors.
