# Merrifield resin

Merrifield resin is a chloromethylated polystyrene cross-linked with divinylbenzene, the original support used by Bruce Merrifield for solid-phase peptide synthesis. It is mainly associated with Boc chemistry, in which final cleavage requires strong acids such as hydrogen fluoride. It remains of historical and practical importance in peptide chemistry.
