# Mass spectrometry

Mass spectrometry (MS) is an analytical technique that measures the mass-to-charge ratio of ions. Molecules are ionised, separated by their m/z values and detected. For peptides it confirms identity by matching observed mass to the calculated mass and can reveal impurities, modifications and sequence information through fragmentation.
