# Mass accuracy

Mass accuracy is the difference between the measured and the theoretical mass of an ion, often expressed in parts per million (ppm). High-resolution instruments routinely achieve accuracy within a few ppm, which greatly narrows the possible elemental compositions and increases confidence in peptide identity confirmation.
