# Lyophilisation

Lyophilisation, or freeze-drying, removes water from a frozen sample by sublimation under reduced pressure, followed by secondary drying to remove bound moisture. It produces a dry, porous powder or cake that is far more stable than a solution. Most synthetic research peptides are supplied lyophilised to maximise shelf life during storage and shipping.
