# Lipidation

Lipidation is the covalent attachment of a fatty acid or other lipid moiety to a peptide or protein. In research peptides, palmitoyl or other acyl chains may be attached to lysine side chains or the N-terminus, sometimes through a spacer. Lipidation increases hydrophobicity, can promote binding to albumin and changes retention behaviour in reversed-phase HPLC.
