# Leucine

Leucine (three-letter code Leu, one-letter code L) is a branched-chain amino acid with a hydrophobic isobutyl side chain. It strongly favours helical structures and contributes to hydrophobic interactions. Leucine is isobaric with isoleucine, so the two cannot be distinguished by simple mass measurement.
