# IUPAC nomenclature

IUPAC nomenclature is the systematic method of naming chemical compounds recommended by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. For peptides, IUPAC-IUBMB recommendations cover amino acid abbreviations and sequence notation. Systematic names describe structure unambiguously, though they can be very long for peptides.
