# Isoleucine

Isoleucine (three-letter code Ile, one-letter code I) is a branched-chain amino acid with two chiral centres and a hydrophobic sec-butyl side chain. It has the same mass as leucine, so distinguishing them requires specialised fragmentation methods or chromatography. It is beta-branched and favours beta-sheet conformations.
