# HEPES

HEPES is a zwitterionic Good's buffer with a pKa of about 7.5 at 25 °C, commonly used in cell culture and biochemical assays to maintain physiological pH outside a carbon dioxide incubator. It has low metal binding, but can generate hydrogen peroxide when exposed to light in the presence of riboflavin.
