# Gross weight

Gross weight is the total mass of the material in a peptide vial, including the peptide itself plus counter-ions, residual moisture and any other non-peptide components. Vial labels typically state gross weight. To calculate how many moles of peptide are present, researchers can multiply gross weight by the net peptide content reported on the certificate of analysis.
