Glossary

# Freeze-thaw cycle

A freeze-thaw cycle is a single round of freezing a sample and then thawing it. Repeated cycles can damage peptides and proteins through ice-crystal formation, local concentration of solutes, pH shifts and air-water interface exposure, promoting aggregation and degradation. Aliquoting stock solutions avoids the need to thaw the whole sample repeatedly.
