# Fmoc

Fmoc (fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl) is a base-labile protecting group used to block the amino group of amino acids during solid-phase peptide synthesis. It is removed each cycle with a secondary amine, usually piperidine in DMF. Fmoc chemistry is paired with acid-labile side-chain protecting groups, which are removed during the final TFA cleavage step.
