# Fluorescent labelling

Fluorescent labelling is the attachment of a fluorophore, such as FITC, carboxyfluorescein or a cyanine dye, to a peptide to enable detection by fluorescence. Labelled peptides are used in microscopy, flow cytometry, binding assays and uptake studies. The label changes the peptide's mass and may alter its properties.
