# Electrospray ionisation

Electrospray ionisation (ESI) is a soft ionisation technique in which a liquid is sprayed through a charged capillary, producing fine droplets that evaporate to release gas-phase ions. ESI generates multiply charged peptide ions with little fragmentation and couples directly to liquid chromatography in LC-MS.
